Fernando Picenni was born in Bergamo in 1929. After settling in Milan, in 1961 he presents his first personal show at the Galleria Annunciata. In the 70s he carries on his research on colour and form: his works, defined by critics “geometrical banners”, show the prevalence of intensely coloured signs and lines on dark backgrounds. In 1978 the so-called “constructive period” begins during which the artist makes installations with coloured wood and other materials, by using bearings fixed on the walls or on the floor. After five years of frantic and enthusiastic work, Picenni comes back to painting on canvas and displays his works in Italy and abroad. His pieces make part of private Italian and foreign collections (Great Britain, United States, Belgium, Switzerland). The exhibition held at the Galleria Folini Arte Contemporanea, in Chiasso, presents a series of paintings made by the artist in the period 1999-2002, with some Constructions, made up of painted wood and other materials assembled and fixed together on the walls. Concerning these works Elena Pontiggia affirms : “his work is instable, though it is complexe and even harmonic. Beauty is not supposed to appear at first sight. It is rather hidden, and then slowly revealed in a “second sight” as Franz Marc called it. Since the place and reverie of painting resides in the second sight”.
